ARCHERY

John O' Gaunt's Bowmen (Archery)
Tel: 01524 63896.
During the Winter (end of September to the end of March) the club shoots indoors at 7.00pm each Wednesday at Middleton Parish Hall. But during the Summer months they move to the Vale of Lune R.U.F.C. again on Wednesdays at 7.00pm.
John O'Gaunt's Bowmen is one of the oldest names in the sport. It was reformed in 1788 at about the same time as The Royal Toxophilite Society and the Queen's Company of Archers in Edinburgh (Queen's bodyguard in Scotland). The club has had many ups and downs over the years but has always survived in one form or another.
Prior to the Second World War most of the membership was made up from the professional and upper class families of Lancaster. In the 1850's the annual shoot was a major local event, shot on the Fairfield with the local Brass Band in attendance and the City closed for a half day. This is a Target Archery Club shooting a wide range of bows ranging from the traditional Longbow to the modern Compound. There are competitions held all over the UK at Weekends throughout the Summer and a number of indoor shoots during Winter.

The Mobile Chaos MotorCycle Club is a Lancaster-based club which started several years ago by a group of like-minded friends. It holds several events during the year and support s various charities including: The North West Air Ambulance, Lancaster Lions and the MS society. They are a small, but tight group that likes a good party. As a club they attend several rally events each year. The club meets every other Tuesday at the Yorkshire House Pub in Lancaster. (dates are posted on the diary page)

Morecambe Bay Estuaries Advanced Motorcyclists
There are regular monthly meets with a ride out somewhere afterwards and numerous trips out and about too; from Fish & Chip runs on a Friday evening to European Trips. Several members of the group have just returned from a weekend away touring the Trossachs in Scotland and in June a good few are off to the Harz Mountains in Germnay for a week’s touring holiday. Most weekends in the summer months, and when ever possible during the winter there’s something happening with further rides, events and social gatherings being planned all the time.
MBEAM offers skills improvement courses and an advanced rider qualification to local people across the district at the start of the biking season. Having a qualification can earn discounts of around 10 per cent off insurance premiums for riders.
The group are offering a discount to those who enrol before the end of June 2007. The ‘Skills for Life’ course normally costs £85 but on passing the test and joining MBEAM a rebate of £20 will be given. Special discounts already apply to those under 26 years old.
The course consists of 5 on the road sessions, usually at weekly intervals to give time for practice, with detailed feedback after each ride. After this there is a mock test carried out by a member of the group, followed by the advanced test itself, carried out by an external examiner.

The Ramblers' Association, Lancaster Group.
The countryside is particularly pleasant around Lancaster. The group walks in both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks; the Arnside/ Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the wild lonely moors of Bowland, the flat mosses of Cockerham and in the beautiful Lune Valley. As a national charity the group works to enhance and protect the natural beauty of the country-side. We ensure that local paths are kept in good condition and exert pressure to see that obstructions and broken stiles
are remedied as soon as possible. Members enjoy a full and varied programme of both weekday and weekend walks. Full day walks vary from easy five miles walks to strenuous fell
walks. All full day walks require boots and waterproof clothing. Local evening walks of between two and three miles are led weekly throughout the summer months. The group organises surveys of local rights of way, an enjoyable activity which improves map reading skills. Other events include two day treks , Youth Hostel weekends and visits to the Ramblers' Chalet near Keswick in the Lake District. There is something for everyone. Why not find out more about us?
