Torrisholme Cemetery

Torrisholme cemetery was opened in 1906 and is one of seven cemeteries operated by Lancaster City Council. The total area of the cemetery is 14½ acres containing areas for Church of England, Non-Conformist and Roman Catholic burials.
The cemetery is open to the general public every day of the year.
The Chapel is non-denominational and is available to all religions, sects and beliefs.
Torrisholme Cemetery won Cemetery of the Year 2009 in the 5-15 acre category at an awards ceremony on Tuesday (September 29).
Organised by the Memorial Awareness Board, All burial sites participating in the Awards were assessed on a range of criteria including maintenance, design, facilities, freedom of memorial choice and involvement with their local community.

New building regulations aimed at curbing the unacceptable number of deaths, injuries and house fires caused by faulty electrical installations, came into force on 1 January 2005.
These rules affect anyone considering electrical work in the home, including DIY enthusiasts. Failure to comply could lead to householders being required to bring the work up to standard and may make it more difficult to sell their homes.
Minor jobs like replacing sockets and light switches in low risk areas are not be affected. However anyone thinking of, for example, carrying out electrical work in kitchens, bathrooms or outdoors or adding new circuits to any part of their house has to get building control involved.
