Welcome to the Virtual-Lancaster Art Gallery - featuring links
to local art groups, artists and online galleries.
People say that when you use the word 'local' describing an artist
it's the kiss of death.
In fact this page contains links to nationally and internationally
acclaimed artists and some of the greatest work in the world. The 'anti-local'
nonsense just reflects the low self-esteem of some local galleries and
funders, the 'almost-' and 'used-to-be-' artists keen for acceptance
from the centralised, paperwork establishment (and occasionally invited
to the odd soulless party in exchange for exhibition-space and commissions),
not the quality of the living work we see around us. Van Gogh was a
local artist. So was Michaelangelo. So is Judy Chicago.
Sadly,
the brilliant Chris Amriding died in 2005, although his web site
is still online as of July 2007. Chris, who studied art at Lancaster
and Morecambe Art College and Preston Polytechnic (University
of Central Lancashire), was an active
supporter of local artists and his spirit lives on in initiatives
such as AIM2.

Aziza
Essa
Web: www.moodsoncanvas.co.uk Aziza was born in Lancaster. "Painting is, and
has for a long time, been my creative and emotional outlet," she
says. Psychology influences all her work along with the people in
her life, her environment and her feelings. "In my work I can
see my past, I can feel some of my future". Her paintings also
convey much of her daily experiences and where she is mentally and
spiritually at the time of creating the work -- "the joys and
frustration of life, and in truth, even vices of life".

J
Elaine
Jackson I was born in Lancaster 1952 and attended Teacher Training
College 1972-75. It was here I first found a love of surrealism, especially
the work of Max Ernst. I later graduated from Lancaster and Morecambe Art
College. Most of my work concerns itself with seeing
things in ways that aren't ordinarily accessible to people.

Donald
Taylor
Web: www.donaldtaylor.org.uk
'My first love is landscape painting" says Donald. "As a boy my habit
was to get up at daybreak on Saturdays and walk up onto the moors above the
town, to favourite haunts like Deeply Vale and Knowl Hill, and I would explore
every fold and track. It was my ambition to be as good at conveying my feelings
of excitement and mystery about the landscape I loved, through painting, with
the same intensity that Turner's large landscape painting, 'Gathering Bait,
Calais Sands' in Bury Art Gallery communicated to me..."

not romantic, and it’s unfair. Many artists have remarkable talents
that in time will prove their worth. We want to encourage investment
in art and in the abilities of artists."
AIM2 is planning to hold a series of one and two-day events at the
weekends at various venues in Lancaster where artists can come along
and put up a stall and display their work. If you’re an artist
