......a fantastic energy-laden indie-punk rock'n'roll rollercoasting
beast of a band! They look good, they sound good, and they've got anthemic
repeated
choruses about going faster and faster and having something to fight
for!

Formed in the autumn of 2007 and playing mainly Balkan and Klezmer tunes from their own unique perspective the 7-piece Balkanics feature two fiddles, a cello, accordion, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, whistle and percussion which can make for a very big sound. They are all based in Lancaster and comprise of: Jane Lawrence, Fiddle; Hugh Tuffen, Cello; Paul Ferguson, Fiddle and Guitar; Sian Philips, Accordion; Roger Purves, Guitar, Bouzouki and Mandolin; Joe Murphy, whistles and percussion; Noel Cass, percussion.
(Satori writes: this band has outstanding musical energy and rhythm - makes you want to skip about like a happy, bouncy lamb!)

Boogie
Bill Roberts Fulltime piano player and freelance musician, whose roots are embedded in blues music but with branches now extending deep into other genres. Largely remembered locally for involvement with The Hustle ('88 - 2000) and Betty's
Blues. Currently playing in various bands and formats, including local 5-piece Electric Mud, The Swamp Dogs and many other projects. As a solo artist, Bill plays jazz and blues bar room classics, from the slow and sleazy to boisterous boogie. Bill is also a music workshop leader in educational and 'arts in health' forums.

The Bob Moffat Jazz
Quartet Sadly Bob died in June 2007 and the Quartet is no more.
Happy Trails, Bob!
This inspirational quartet plays through a spectrum of numbers from simple delicate melodies to forceful swing. The rhythm section is a
hard 50s type swinging trio with Bob Moffatt the pianist and leader. Guitarist Mark Townson, blends and drives nicely out front. The quartet
has appeared at many Jazz festivals including Keswick, Broughton-in-Furness
and Lancaster. They've also appeared in the first Preston Jazz festival
in October 2002 and been on Radio Lancashire. The line-up consists of
Bob Moffatt on Keyboards/ Vocals, Mark Townson on Guitar, Bassist Mal
Hall and Peter Eddows.
The
British Energy Morecambe Band Activities include regular concerts and contests. Caned
Unable Contact: Aaron Perkins,
35 Tan Hill Drive, Beaumont, Lancaster LA1 2JB Tel +44 (0)7769 952421
Caned Unable started playing together in July 1999. The line-up consists
of Aaron Perkins (vocals, acoustic/rhythm guitar, keyboards), Johan
Perkins (lead guitar), Rob Porter (bass guitar), Katy Davis (cello)
and Kyle Oram (drums, percussion, cornet). Sound engineer Jim started
working with the band in December 2001. Laura took on the job of manager
in June 2002. A strong, witty and capable rock band, with a broad appeal,
and worthy winners of the annual Carnforth 2003 Battle of the Bands
competition. Their new CD Zen Panic is now out. It's an excellent
set, very well produced - have
a listen.
The Duo Email: tonycookeguitar[AT]googlemail.com The Duo comprises singers and guitarists Dave
Emptage and Tony Cooke who produce an evening of varied music and songs
ranging
from traditional folksong through material by the likes of Paul Simon,
John Lennon and David Bowie to some out-and-out rockers and a couple
of
Pink Floyd numbers. Both play acoustic guitars, although these are enhanced
from time to time by the use of some electronic wizardry, and specialise
in performing songs with strong melodies and good vocal harmonies.
They
tend to start the evening with softer ballads and folk songs and gradually
raise the tempo throughout the two sets to reach a point where people
are either singing along or have left. They have played all the live
music
venues in Lancaster as well as further afield in such dens of iniquity
as Llanidloes, Rufford and Chorley. One splendid evening's entertainment
(usually 2 x 50-minute sets) at very reasonable rates. How can you
resist?"
Electric Free Time Machine '..quote Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits (among others) as their influences. Described by a local newspaper as having 'a sinister edge to their jam based experimental grooves', Electric Free Time Machine resists easy categorisation. From hard and fast psychedelic punk boneyard blues and vast experimental krautrock ambient strangeness, to abrasive shambolic metal and delicate acoustic folk. Each setlist is constantly different, relying on both carefully structured tracks and the completely improvised. Currently working on an e.p at Lancaster Music Co-op and a full album at LIPA. Constantly writing new material. Always expect something a bit different.'
Electric Mud Exciting blues band formed in early 2004, featuring former
Hustle musicians Bill Roberts and Steve Hughes,
and Fontains/ ex-Swampdogs players Garry Jackson
and Dave Wilkinson. Electric Mud was born out of a mutual love for the
guitar led, piano backed songs made famous by giants such as Buddy Guy,
Freddie King and Magic Sam. Expect to hear familiar classics and some
more eclectic choice tunes, all delivered with passion and aplomb.

The Evil Beat 'We are Portishead's evil twin. Infectious melodies put to a mixture of dark grooves and occasionally heavy guitars. Rounded off by an exquisitly handsome bassist and funny looking drummer we are as much about live performance as we are song writing.'
Far
Out "Rising, Phoenix-like from the embers of
former top boogie band 'Out Of Order' (last seen in 1989) and following
a hugely successful
UK mini tour supporting Irish lads 'The Mateys', this four piece Twelve-Bar
Boogie Rock band from Lancaster are now back to do some local gigs.
Led by TJ Hughes (The Reverend) on Scorching Lead Guitar (former 'Swamp
Dogs' & 'Junior's Wailing' frontman), ably backed up by 'Uncle'
Johnny Seddon on Rhythm Guitar and the Duckles brothers (Steve & Mike)
on Bass and Drums."
The
Fontains A Rhythm and Blues band, The Fontains played regularly at Morecambe's
Floral Hall, the Central Pier, the Tivoli Bar and other local venues between
1963 and 1967. They supported many famous names including The Yardbirds
featuring Eric Clapton, The Kinks and The Big Three. After career intervals
spanning over 30 years The Fontains got back together in July 1999.
Kr!ss Foster Singer / songwriter of "strange, unique but compelling
compositions", but possibly best known for appearing in a furry
leopard suit.

Frenchie "Frenchie has been gigging for years solo and in numerous bands including The Jackdaws and, more recently, RadioNasty. This 4 piece saw the same exploding Frenchie as was in the Jackdaws but also had a drum and bass edge which reached out to an even wider fan base. Going solo again he has since written and recorded his second solo album 'Four Years Later' with his song writing partner Julian Whittle and will be giving this out at his upcoming gigs. He has just qualified for the second round of national talent contest Live and Unsigned UK (2008).

Get Carter Phone: 07747 024338 and 07930 941694
Email: ilovegetcarter@hotmail.com Get Carter comprises James Mackie, Hammond organ, Mod maestro, sharp suits and rock star credentials and John Elles, drums, rock solid rhythm and cool, insouciant elegance. They don’t sing, they don’t chat, they just play. Their set is a mix of high funk Sixties classics and their own revved-up original compositions. James Mackie has spent most of his adult life as a professional musician. He was keyboard player with chart-topping ska band, The Selecter, with whom he toured the world and recorded two albums, one gold, before moving on to the unforgettable Madness. He's also composed for TV, theatre and radio. John Elles has been on the music scene since the early days of punk. His band The Kassels was Lancaster's first punk band. In 1977 they supported Generation X. John met James in the 1970s but it was only in 2004 that they got together to form Get Carter – and their tight-knit sound continues to develop.
