Drum n Bass Night
presented by Buddhakkan Headset + Guests
Korners Bar, the Farmers Arms, Lancaster
9 April 2003
By Perks Jobsworth
At
last! An unashamed, no holds barred DRUM N BASS NITE! For far too long
D&B has been backed into a corner here in little ole Lancaster,
accused of creating a shady, drug-fuelled atmosphere (unlike other musical
forms, of course
), until it became a banned substance itself.
Drum n bass actually became known round here as 'the forbidden music'.
But like many forbidden delights, D&B had not vanished, merely gone
a little further underground
til now. After all, how many other
kinds of music of Black origin have been banned in the past, only to
rise again?
The DJs as always acquitted themselves with style. (Although we would've
liked to see Big G in a tight singlet waving a record in the air! Ow!)
The hard driving beats were matched by the energy and enthusiasm of
the dancers, who packed the dancefloor and loudly demanded MORE from
Gaz, Gez and Big G at the end of the night. Here's a few samples of
comments from the happy crowd:
'Sound! More D&B please!'
'Lovely atmosphere - so many people with smiles on their faces'
'So good to have drum'n bass back after all the Warehouse shit - everybody's
into it'
'D&B _ it's the the nu rock an roll'
'Ambience is so good, but drum'n bass needs more women DJs'
'these people ENJOY themselves playing! And the pleasure rubs off on
us
'
- and finally:
erm
'Barbie dolls are cooool - I model myself on Ken'
All in all, a good night out, and we are so grateful to have drum'n
bass back in the main arena once more. Three cheers and thanks very
much!
