Interview with Sol & Xample by Perksy Jobsworth Fat Ass Funk Block Party Night (Read a full review of the night plus interview with Hip-Hop world champion Cash Money by Perksy Jobsworth GO!) Sol & Xample, who played the Waterfront Bar (good vibes; not enough sound) together with MC SAS at Fat Ass Funk’s big party night on May 15th are drum & bass DJs hailing from Liverpool, where they are residents at SOPHONIC SESSIONS at Zanzibar on Seel Street. These guys are up and coming stars of the D&B scene, having won the prestigious BBC 1Xtra Cutting Room award in 2003. Having drawn the short straw (playing at the same time as Cash Money, who was headlining the night), they proceeded to rock the house and supply energy to the D&B fans who’d been lying in wait after a masterly set by DJ Wild. Xample and Sol knew their tunes and played a tight set, aided and abetted by MC SAS, who showed the crowd that an MC can enhance music rather than make you want to rip out the mic… Respect also to the home grown MCs who were brave enuff to talk the talk that night. Diehard D&B fan Perksy, often to be found shouting ‘come on!’ ‘let’s ‘ave it!’ etc at the back of dark smoky drum & bass tents, was brave enuff to interview the lads: Perksy: Sol: What sort of music did you listen to first of all? SAS: Xample: Sol: Day jobs? Sol: SAS & Gav: Currently listening to? All: Technical stuff? SAS: Are you working with anyone else? Phobia, Crystal Clear, and Strainjah. Where do you go clubbing? All: And staying in treats? SAS: Xample: Sol: Any message for the Morecambe massive? All: And we all fell about laughing in a scouse style. These boys were well nice.
