HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOURPUSS!
Saturday 5 November, Bentham Town Hall
Review by Perksy Jobsworth

"Enjoy the s*** outta yourselves! We've made sure it'll be an excellent evening!"

Promoters and breaks outfit Sourpuss celebrated their fifth birthday with a great big party with DJ Magra and Rob da Pensioner, Nick Dent (of Tangled/breaks) and the three lads who make up Sourpuss -- otherwise known as Cheeky Munky, Mr Ed,and Grum, with their vocalist Miss Bels alongside. The event also included a set from the lovely Koma & Bones, delighting the crowd until 2.00am with some surprises and their usual sheer brilliance.

TCR, the record label host to Koma & Bones, is also celebrated their 100th release, Rennie Pilgrem's new album.
As if this wasn't enough, there was all sorts going on in another room, courtesy of the OHANA sound system, noted for their free parties near Manchester – in fact, Sourpuss hoped the whole event would be characterised by the positive attitude and warm spirit of the free party scene -- and for the most part, this is exactly what we got.

Ohana were joined by J Don, and the room's music policy is wide ranging – funked up dub, reggae, and jungle.

SOURPUSS PROPHECY FULFILLED!
This was indeed an excellent evening, and the party goers enjoyed themselves mightily. This was a deservedly sell-out event, with both dance floors packed with happy people -- the décor looked fabulous and so did the dancers -- most of them -- the idiot would-be arsonist with the firework is now banned from ALL events.

This incident aside, the evening was a triumph of great music and good vibes.

As Bones of Koma & Bones put it afterwards, "wherever you are if you've got the right people you can have a great time. And these were the right people! We thought it was really good, enjoyed it a lot.

"And let's put paid to some Chinese whispers – there was apparently a rumour going round that we were reluctant to play Bentham Town Hall. Completely untrue – we hadn't played locally for around 5 years and were glad of a chance to!"

The Sourpuss lads are kept busy with all kinds of events and parties, both playing and promoting nights. Keep up with them at contactsourpuss@yahoo.com … and watch this space for rather special event news early next spring.
