JANE BOND presented by Lipservice
Friday 23 September - Saturday 6 October 2007
Jane Bond is a new kind of double-0 agent. For one thing, she didn't take a first in classics at Balliol - she went to Loughborough and got a joint honours in PE and ceramics.. Lipservice's sp00f on the 007 series is a guffawing romp through the classic Bond elements - none more classic than their recruiting as an able Bondboy the very tasty six-packing stunt acrobat ninja Martin Tucker, with whom Jane has to grapple, in more ways than one, to get the job done. Ah, she's such a trooper... I've not seen so many backflips in so short a time since Olga Korbut, especially as Martin not only plays the evil Timotei, but also doubles as Jane in the more 'energetic' fighting sequences. Are we convinced? Stunned more like. Not only that but they put him in shorts and have him floating by on a surfboard in the background of the beach scene. Anyway, having allowed the tiny and little-known republic of Kryzcykstanbol (that may not be the exact spelling) to be obliterated by a nuclear device, while distracted by a phone call from her au-pair, Jane must redeem her boss's decision to make her the first female 00 agent by outwitting the evil villain Blowdryand his killer companion animal, Bunny Galore in their vicious plan to blow up the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding (Maggie is the tall one) pull it off yet again in their own hallmark style, with Sue playing a multiplicity of roles - M, Cashman (a male version of Moneypenny) and the evil Blowdry. Their timing is slick - their special effects are abysmal - another 00 dig, and the laughs come thick and fast. If you haven't seen Lipservice, you're missing out. They just get better and better.
