Acoustics Anonymous every Wednesday Evening Reviewed on Wednesday 30 May 2007 Are you looking to showcase your own songs or show us your guitar skills, even play your favourite artists' songs? It is a great venue, spacious yet intimate. The atmosphere becomes quiet as the artists play on the stage. They are very much the centrepiece. The talent was, in my opinion, worthy of tickets and yet these artists play for free! Stuart Anthony was one such. Playing on a warmly lit stage, he entranced us with songs from Nick Drake and Tim Buckley, with sweet, sweet tones
from his 12 string guitar, The River being one of these. Next up was Susi Frankland, singing her own song Everyday, her soft vocals and skilled playing drawing you into her gentle world. Someone who you can relate easily to, she tells me she is playing at the Golden Lion on Tuesdays. To close the night out the guys running the Tavern, Nick, Jerry, Franco and Roberta, picked up their guitars and free-played popular songs, italian and some folk, ranging from Bob Dylan and Chris Rea to Elvis Presley - of course backed by me on a set of congas.
If this how their Wednesday nights are, we can look forward to great things from the Tavern. Dale Leitch 3/6/07 The Stonewell Tavern |
