Dial-A-Bus
Accessible minibus (takes wheelchairs) takes you where you want to go locally - if you book well ahead, and if they have capacity. Reasonable fares, bus passes required. Also do weekly round trips to all the local supermarkets.

A new, free advice line is available to answer any questions relating to the provision of access to premises, goods and services, required under the Disability Discrimination Act (Part 3) which came into force in October 2004. If you own a public building or manage/run an organisation and are unsure about your legal obligations, information and advice is available from Rosemary Baker on 01772 624868.

Free Handyperson Services in the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay Area for people with disabilities.
Lancaster City Council is offering, free of charge, the services of a Handyperson to carry out minor repairs and general maintenance around the homes of people who are disabled or over the age of 60 years. The scheme operates throughout the whole of Lancaster District and residents in
Morecambe’s Poulton Renewal Area are able to access the scheme, regardless of age, if they receive certain benefits. Further information tel: 01524 586820.

Holidays
Enable Holidays offer special package holidays for people with disabilities, with special provision of transport, accommodation and leisure facilities. Enable Holidays is only bookable via a telephone booking number: 0871 222 4939 so that advice can be given by experts. The website www.enableholidays.com offers a guide to holiday destinations rated for mobility on a scale from 1 to 3. The charity Scope receives a percentage of their booking + insurance fees, and you can get more info from their Charity Shops.

Lancaster & Morecambe Lions Club Bottle Scheme
The special bottle is kept in the fridge of a person who is alone or vulnerable and contains vital information about illness, allergies, medication, doctor, next of kin, pet info and any other information that might be useful to someone called to the house in an emergency. All emergency and relevant services locally know to look for it. Collectable from your chemist or health centre.

Lancashire Disability Database
A Lancashire County Council Resource For Children with Disabilities and their Families

Inclusion on the database for families is voluntary and will not affect any entitlement to services currently being received. The database includes children with any disability up to 18yrs and provides information for them and their families.
The benefits for families are a free regular newsletter delivered to your door and a Directory of service providers.
The database is confidential, no information of any individual entries will be revealed.

Lonsdale District Carers Association
Support organisation for those caring for a sick or disabled person. They organise coffee mornings, outings and special events such as 'pampering days' where nice goodies such as aromatherapy etc are laid on and activity days with special tutors / organisers - all relevant, light-hearted. There are special meetings for rural carers. You can also get different therapies (ie massage) for nominal rates, and they have a lot of very useful information (more than this page!).

Shopmobility
This service is currently suspended but will relaunch on 10 August 2010, thanks to a new partnership between One Voice Disability Services, the City and County Councils and Lancaster firm Wright Care Mobility Ltd.

Wheelchairs and electric pavement scooters for hire.
The service will be in Lancaster on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9.30am and 4pm and will be based at The Cornerstone (One Voice) Dalton Square (downhill end).
And available in Morecambe on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.30am and 4pm based at The Cartmel Centre, Euston Road, LA4 5NR.
In order to hire a scooter or a wheelchair you must become a member of the scheme (see website for details). Members must be aged 17+.
Due to insurance requirements in order to hire a scooter the customer must complete a basic training course to ensure they are able to use the scooter properly.
To guarantee equipment please call 01524 382764 to book.
Charges: Membership fee: £5.
3 hours scooter hire: £3. All day scooter hire: £6.
3 hour wheelchair hire: £2. All day wheelchair hire: £5
Weekly hire: £60 deposit required.
Scooter £50 p/w. Wheelchair £30 p/w.
Wright Care Mobility are the local NHS wheelchair voucher scheme suppliers. If you require longer term wheelchair hire they advise you to ask your GP for referral to the Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre for assessment. You may be be eligible for the wheelchair voucher scheme covering all or part of the cost of your own wheelchair.

National charity that provides free radios and televisions to
bedridden and housebound people who are unable to afford to buy them. Applications must be made via a sponsor agency, either voluntary or statutory.
