Our aim is to provide support for people (especially children) with DS and their families in North Lancashire. Our meetings are informal and a place to meet other families. We have also had visits from therapists and portage teachers and we have social events - a games and dance evening, a summer garden party, ten pin bowling, a Christmas party etc. We have an e-newsletter and updates on local and national disability events and issues. We are affiliated to the national Down’s Syndrome Association.
Council Home Improvement & Handyperson Services
The city council’s home improvement team offers free home visits to give advice on all aspects of people’s property, including maintenance, repairs, energy efficiency and home safety, as well as dealing with builders and getting estimates.
The team can offer advice on welfare benefits and raising finance to carry out essential work, as well as advice on moving home.
A Handyperson service is available to carry out basic plumbing and other small jobs around the home, such as fitting grab rails and handrails, fixing door bells and locks, and fitting smoke alarms.
Help is also available from the city council for adapting the home for disabled residents.
To find out more about the services provided, call 01524 582257 or visit www.lancaster.gov.uk/homeimprovement.
