Lancaster Community Music Centre

An independent organisation since 1994, it offers the chance to take part in a wide range of musical activities. Leighton Moss Nature Reserve

One of the RSPB's most important reserves. The largest remaining reedbed in north-west England attracts a wonderful range of wildlife. Among its special birds are breeding bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers, with water rails and pochards, and its mammals include roe and red deer. You can take your pick of long or short nature trails - shorter ones are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. As are most of the hides.
Open daily from 9am to 9pm (or sunset, when earlier) and has an impressive Visitor centre & year round programme of events and activities (see website for details of events at the reserve and for summer Morecambe seafront events). Most events last 2-3 hours. £4.50 adults, £3 concs, £1 children, £9 familis. (discount for RSPB members) Events are FREE if you come by public transport on production of valid train or bus ticket. Primarily concerned with improving social welfare provision, community development addressing a broad range of issues generated by the environment, housing, health and unemployment with an emphasis on marginalised groups. The centre is about developing self-confidence and skills in the people in order that they join together to bring about collective social change. The centre is dedicated to working with people of all ages, running a series of groups and classes in the daytime and evening and is committed to working with young people during all half-terms.
There is a fully equipped training suite with eight computers, a spacious main hall ideal for projects, functions, meetings, parties etc. The centre has also a small but fully accessible teaching kitchen.
