• Lancaster County, and Lancaster its county seat, South Carolina Lancaster County and its county seat of Lancaster were
named after Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The county was formed in
1785. Scotch-Irish settlers from Pennsylvania began moving into this
upstate region in the 1750s. The Waxhaws settlement on the border with
North Carolina was the birthplace of President Andrew Jackson (1767-1845). More
