of the influence of the Southern Pacific Railroad, which was completed
between San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1867. Following the completion

Lancaster County, and Lancaster its county seat, South Carolina Lancaster County and its county seat of Lancaster were
named after Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The county was formed in
1785. Scotch-Irish settlers from Pennsylvania began moving into this
upstate region in the 1750s. The Waxhaws settlement on the border with
