If you ever had to dump a truckload on the old Salt Ayre site (not likely for the average tourist but who knows, you could get lucky!) you'd find yourself in a thick cloud of shrieking birds that Hitchcock didn't even come close to matching. It's amazing. He didn't get the aroma either!

So why (oh why) does the BBC keep paying people stacks of our licence money to go to exotic locations to film birds when there's so much to see right here...

Located conveniently near 2 supermarkets and a superb sports and leisure centre, Salt Ayre landfill and waste recycling centre boasts one of the largest seagull colonies in Europe, if not the world.

Nearby, Travellers' ponies graze peacefully on the embankments.

So if you've got stuff to recycle - glass, metal, cans, plastic, paper, rags - or stuff to dump, why not make a family outing of it.
