PigLancaster Footlights Youth theatre have just staged their latest production Animal Farm - Orwell's political fable could not have been easy to adapt for youth theatre but directors Julie Brown and Carl Hayhurst made a gripping night of it. Jane Sunderland was there to review the play for Virtual Lancaster ("Shadows are used to excellent effect – to show Farmer Jones bathing his feet at the start (a clever way to make a child look adult size)...") and you can read her review here

Wed 25 & Fri 27 Shattering Images presents The King, the Crow and the Girl. Dukes. 1pm (Wed), 7.30 pm( Fri) DT3, Moor Lane. This 40 minute performance is freem - donations welcome. The King, the Crow and the Girl is the latest spectacular performance from Shattering Images Theatre Company, which works with people with complex needs. This ambitious production will see a cast of 35 students from Loyne School and Beaumont College in Lancaster and Tor View School in Haslingden, working alongside a number of young volunteer leaders and DT3 staff to create a spectacle involving live music, colourful costumes and filmed sequences. The cast and crew have been working since September to create this brand new theatre piece which is set in a war-torn fictional city. Looking at issues of power and the aftermath of war, this promises to be a unique and thought-provoking piece of theatre. After not quite scaling the Hollywood heights with The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, the UK's Hammer And Tongs musicpromomaking partnership of director Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith went back to their lofi roots for the followup. And thank God they did. Made for less than Hitchhiker's ad budget, this great, handcrafted little wonder is not only a rare funforallages crowdpleaser it's also a kids' movie for adults that works on both levels without any compromise. Set in a sleepy '80s seaside town, where Rambo: First Blood has just opened, it finds two young loners becoming the best of friends while trying to film their own Stalloneinspired action caper for TV's Screen Test.
