Beauty and the Beast in Williamson Park

Each summer thousands of people travel to Lancaster to see the Dukes promenade theatre performance in Williamson Park. This year’s production of Beauty and the Beast promises magic, mystery, surprises and just a hint of danger, as we are invited to enter the Beast’s woodland lair. Spectators walk from scene to scene to follow the action as it unfolds as dusk descends on the park. And it’s not just the actors who will be telling the tale. Audience members will also have the chance to get in on the action, as they are cajoled into helping the characters make their journey along the way. Ocean Colour Scene
. 8 pm The Dome. Tickets for the gig, which starts at 7.30pm and is limited to over 18s, cost £22.50 and are available from the Box Office by telephoning 01524 582803. Ocean Colour Scene is the latest big name lined up to play at The Dome in Morecambe. The band will be playing at the venue as part of a series of live gigs which will also take them to the Live at Loch Lomond Festival, where the band will be the main support act to the infamous Sex Pistols.

'Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland'
6.30pm. Williamson Park, Lancaster. Including a fancy dress parade during the interval! Tickets £12.00 adults, £8.00 children and concessions, family tickets (2xad 2xconc) £35.00. Chapterhouse's second children's show this year is the wonderfully eccentric and lyrical, ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland’. Again a show for children of all ages, this production features all the most famous characters from Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece and has music, song and dance to accompany some of the marvellous poetry. The show is dressed in traditional Edwardian costume, again is not too long for the little ones in the audience,. A cast of nine presents a lovely evening of one of the best-loved books in literature. Sometimes funny, sometimes silly and always engaging, ‘Alice' Adventures in Wonderland’ promises to be a lovely evening’s entertainment for family and friends alike.

Cast: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katherine Ross USA/ 1969/ 110mins. Butch and Sundance are the two leaders of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch is all ideas, Sundance is all action and skill. The west is becoming civilized and when Butch and Sundance rob a train once too often, a special posse begins trailing them no matter where they run. Over rock, through towns, across rivers, the group is always just behind them. When they finally escape through sheer luck, Butch has another idea, "Let''s go to Bolivia". Sun 10 Cross Bay - Half Marathon and Cross Bay Walk (approx 8 miles). Why not experience this unique Half Marathon. The race crosses Morecambe Bay from Flookburgh in Cumbria to Hest Bank, Lancashire taking in the breathtaking scenery of Morecambe Bay and the South Lakes . Run mainly on sands this unique race crosses the River Kent and yes you will get wet, very wet! This flat but challenging run gives you something very different from your usual Half Marathon! Age Limit 17 years. If Running is not your thing why not do the walk which will support the walkers then everyone can gather back together at The Shore Café, Hest Bank, Lancaster . Lancaster City Council is delighted to announce that Courtney Pine will be headlining the city’s 10th Jazz Festival on Satuday August 23 at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster. The legendary saxophonist, MOBO award winner and 2007 Winner of the Urban Music Awards for Best Jazz Act, is in Lancaster to perform a brand new show; Transition in Tradition - A tribute to Sidney Bechet. The performance will be a co-promotion between Lancaster City Council and the Dukes Theatre and will be the main headline event at the festival, which this year will take place from Thursday 21 August until Sunday 24 August.
